Why:

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) along with many other professional organizations is hosting our 6th annual Girls Engineer It! Day on Nov 18, 2017. Our mission and focus at this event is to expose 300 Middle & High school students and 75+ adults/educators to different types of Engineering and let them make an educated decision if it is a path they would consider as a profession. We sell out every year and we hope this year will have the same outstanding enrollment!

For Students:

We start off with an Expo where the students get to perform small hands-on STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities provided by local companies, surrounding universities, and professional organizations. Then we break them into MS and HS groups. Each group performs 3 different Engineering hands-on creations/activities (1 hour for each) created and taught by local Technologist's. They typically get to take their creations home!

For Adults:

While the students are learning we have a separate event for the adults. We educated them on everything they might need to keep the students interested in STEM, college prep, financial aid, and even community opportunities for internships. They also will learn their own STEM activity that they are allowed to take home to teach the students what they learned.

We think it's a great opportunity, and we provide it at a very low cost of $6 a student. The event is limited to 200 students (100 middle and 100 high school). It is promoted as a female event, but males are allowed and attend every year.

Event Schedule:

Schedule can be found here.

Bus and Teacher Stipend:

The GA DOE has graciously agreed to help us again this year with a Bus Reimbursement and Teacher Stipend for any Public School groups.  If you would like to benefit from that please see the Approval Form and then the Reimbursement Form

Must be approved first by GA DOE, simple to fill out.

Wish to Volunteer?:

Please see website or email sav.geid@gmail.com with your name and e-mail address. Kristin Medin will reply back and gather some information and see what you might be interested in helping out with.

Students may also volunteer before and/or after the event if they need community service hours. Please send an e-mail and let our Volunteer Coordinator know you are a student willing to help set-up or tear-down, or both for the event. You will be expected to arrive to help at 8am and stay afterwards till 6pm.
